I was in the Early Childhood Education industry. Ya, I taught little people ABCs and how to read before becoming a tax professional, retiring and becoming a YouTuber.
I know, as I look back, I don ‘t believe it either.
Being the first woman of color to graduate from DeVry and setting the bar high in communication engineering and aircraft maintenance, I opted out of the corporate world and took classes to qualify to teach preschoolers their ABCs.
There is a reason for this unique career transaction, besides men running me out of the industry because I was a woman.
I had a lot of trouble learning my ABCs from A to Z.
I could read long before I knew the ABCs to Z.
I got lost somewhere after “O” and before “U.”
Learning to read without understanding all the rules of phonics was my first indication that I had a select photographic memory. Meaning I only remember things that have a serious emotional attachment to my well-being.
