Yes, Mexico is less expensive, and the weather is charming all year round. But nothing beats retiring in your own country if you can afford it. Here are seven of the cheapest coastal towns in the United States.

Number 1. Beaufort, South Carolina. Beaufort is a charming small town on Port Royal Island in South Carolina. With its historic downtown district, scenic waterfront parks, and proximity to beautiful beaches and nature reserves, Beaufort offers retirees a picturesque setting to call home. The cost of living in Beaufort is lower than other popular coastal destinations like Charleston or Hilton Head Island, making it an attractive option for those on a budget.

The second choice is Gulf Shores, Alabama. Gulf Shores boasts some of the country’s most stunning white sand beaches, making it a highly desirable location for retirees seeking a relaxed beach lifestyle. This small town also offers plenty of recreational activities like fishing and golfing.

Number 3. Fernandina Beach, Florida, is on Amelia Island along Florida’s northeast coast. We find it hard to believe that any location in Florida on the beach is truly affordable. However, Fernandina Beach is cheaper than most places on the Florida coast.
