Santos, Brazil for 90 Days — Living well on less while retired +easy recipe

The Santos area is around 52 miles from Sao Paulo, the largest city in the Americas, yet the drive takes over 90 minutes and costs $60 to $90 USD.

Santos, Sao Vincent, and Para Granda are what I call Sao Paulo's bedroom communities. These three-bedroom communities are located right on the Atlantic Ocean coast.

But here’s the deal.

The rents are still in the affordable range of rents throughout Brazil, except for Rio de Janeiro.

Yes, the condos and apartments on the main street across from the beach are slightly higher, but not always.

I personally found a studio with a great view right across the street from the beach for less than $525 a month. This included all utilities, Wi-Fi, and 24/7 security.

It is an older building with a delightful interior and a million-dollar view. I find these rents on sites like Airbnb. The key is to book for more than 28 days; the rental rates on most properties go way down. (My book shows you how to find these rentals)

Being within walking distance of the grocery store, pharmacy, restaurants, and walkable beach makes a difference.

Like millions of other expats, we keep our monthly living costs down by preparing our own meals. Below is one of my favorite low-cost recipes that I can prepare in almost any country.

Skillet Chicken and Rice
