Here’s what happened: During the last two weeks, the popular clergy al-Sadr said he would resign to support Iraq forming a government. Oh yes, I should tell you. The Iraqi elections were in October of 2021.

Most of the Iraqi people did not vote.

Anyway, the Clergy, al-Sadr won 73 seats in Parliament. To make a long story short, al-Sadr is not part of the Iran-backed supporters who have run the country since the previous dictator, Saddam, is no longer available.

The Iraqi constitution requires a certain quota in Parliament before laws can pass. Well, the Iran-backed supporters forgot to show up to Parliament on the days that a new government was to be formed. This happened three times.

A new government included electing a President and then the President would facilitate a vote for a Prime Minister.

The Iran-backed supporters in Parliament had no intentions of letting the new member of Parliament run things. Finally, Al-Sadr became frustrated and resigned after being threatened.
