Portugal is one of the top retirement and digital nomad destinations in the world. The reason is simple. Portugal has 1,115 miles of gorgeous coastline, historic castles, lots of greenery and ex-pats from around the globe. The country ranks among the safest countries in the world, with one of the top healthcare systems anywhere.

You can live near sandy beaches, cute villages with cobblestone streets or near the golf course or overlooking the sea from a cliff.

However, Portugal is fast becoming shy of all this attention and recently has begun to tighten the grip on rentals and long-term stays in the country.

Most people enjoy the idea of retiring in Portugal because the location enables them to travel all over Europe.

First, let’s talk about the economics of relocating to Portugal. The local people earn an average of $1,107 a month. Thus, the cost of living is not as cheap as some people would lead you to believe. You will need at least two to three times what the locals earn to live comfortably in any retirement destination.
