Digital nomads work online. They are location-independent, meaning they can live anywhere and be paid for work they complete online.

The ideal situation is to earn income from a developed country such as the United States, Canada, or the UK, and live in a country with a lower cost of living and beautiful beaches.

For the most part, Mexico is the “go-to country” for U.S. digital nomads, but not always. DNs are also appearing in Europe, the Far East, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.

Mexico is losing some of its appeal because the cost of living is increasing faster than most people expected. Rents are going up, and popular restaurants have taken a clue from landlords in popular neighborhoods.

Are the local people in Mexico complaining?

Yes. Very much so.

But here’s the deal.

If you live a modest lifestyle in Mexico, which may or may not include a view of the sea, you can live on less than $1800 a month, including everything. If you throw in a roommate, that amount goes down to $900.
