Good News for Iraq No More Relying on Iran for Electricity?

Iraq’s Electrical Problem More Serious Than Ever

There is much conversation in Iraq over the electricity being supplied to Iraq from Iran. Mostly because Iran keeps cutting off and or lowering the amount of electricity being supplied to Iraq.

“The Iraqi government signed a memorandum of understanding on Jan. 25 with Saudi Arabia to connect the two countries’ power grids, ending the monopoly of energy supply from Iran.”

Regardless of what the headlines imply, the agreement between Iraq and Saudi Aribia may be just that, headlines. Actually, making the exchange possible will require newly built equipment to transfer the power. Unfortunately, this new equipment will need to be built in unoccupied areas leaving the equipment open to terrorist attacks.

Unless a more secure and safer way to transfer the electricity is reached, this may continue to be only a headline based on wishful thinking.
