I retired in Mismaloya for five years. A small fishing village seven miles outside of Puerto Vallarta. Here are the most popular retirement towns near PV.

I lived overlooking the Bay of Banderas for five years. Here’s an update on the recent cost of living in the Puerto Vallarta area.

A single person can retire in the Puerto Vallarta area for $1600 to $2000 a month. However, you will need double that amount if you want to live in a gated community or overlooking the sea.

And if you cannot afford to qualify to live in Mexico legally, then try out the border run option. A border run is where you leave the country when your VISA time is up and re-enter in a day or so.

Of course, the new immigration computer system will show the immigration officer what you are doing, so that is one of the reasons I travel outside of Mexico for two, three, and even six months at a time. I could have qualified using the old qualifications, but I decided against having my identity associated with living in another country.
