Can Digital Nomads Claim Travel as a Tax Write Off?

YES and NO; Here’s the tax loophole: The US tax code says IF you’re a travel blogger, ALL of your travel expenses generally are tax deductible! This is why many digital nomads from the United States start a YouTube channel and or a travel blog. A travel blog can be as simple as logging down your daily task, which country you are in, cost of living, rent, utilities, entertainment, etc.

Of course, regardless of if you are a travel channel YouTuber or a Travel Blogger ALL of your business expenses are tax deductible, no matter what type of business you are in. This is true when you are a freelancer and not an employee. This is why so many digital nomads have travel channels or travel blogs? The funny thing is most of us start the travel channel as a side hustle, you know to qualify for the write offs, then all of a sudden, YouTube has this habit of taking over your life. Many YouTubers keep personal clients.

Just know this: If your digital nomad gigs are writing code as an independent contractor, then your airfare from Miami to Istanbul to work as a digital nomad, more than likely is not tax deductible. UNLESS you are going to visit a client. Also, remember there is…
