My old apartment in the Dominican Republic — Under $750 Including Fees

The Dominican Republic shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti to the west. This island nation offers fantastic beaches, golfing, and the highest mountain in the Caribbean and is one of the most affordable places in the Caribbean to live.

The Dominican Republic has a population of 10.8 million people. With 25 to 28 degrees Celsius or 77 to 83 degrees Fahrenheit temperatures. The island does have a hurricane season between June 1st and November 30th. If you follow the direction of the local authorities, you will be safe, or not.

I lived on the island for one year and have plans to return soon. But here is the updated information from the US State Department. Some things have changed.

The crime rate has increased in the past year. The U.S. State Department issued a Level 2 Travel Alert in June of 2023. There has been an increase in security to combat this travel warning, and ex-pats are advised always to be aware of their surroundings.

The travel alerts are very much a part of my travel planning process. The US State Department will usually tell you the areas, that you should avoid and if you deep dive you will learn exactly why the travel warning was published in the first place.
